Teen crashes are predictable - most are preventable.
The odds are stacked against parents of teen drivers. Inexperience and over-confidence combine to create the leading cause of death for those age 15 to 19 – recognized as an epidemic by the Centers for Disease Control and Injury Prevention.
DriveCam has reviewed and analyzed the video of more driving mishaps and crashes than anyone else. We've learned a tremendous amount about how and why drivers get into trouble – be it their own fault or that of another driver. Give your young adult driver the best chance to stay crash-free during those first months by enrolling in DriveCam for Families.
It's easy. Complete the online enrollment form. Within a week or two, the DriveCam vehicle kit is delivered via UPS. Make an appointment for installation at the closest Best Buy store and you are on your way.
Once installed in your teen's vehicle, go for a test drive with your teen to learn how and when the video recorder is triggered. You'll quickly see how it takes fairly aggressive or inattentive driving to trigger the device. Set the expectation for your teen to NOT trigger the camera. Teens in the program say it's quite easy to go with no triggered events by slowing down a little, paying attention to the road ahead and scanning for hazards.
Teens average about 10 event triggers their first week and then quickly drop to an average of 3 to 4 events per month. Parents who put in a good effort in the first few weeks by reviewing videos, sharing the coaching tips from DriveCam and reinforcing expectations, find that the program requires very little effort yet yields tremendous results. Progress is obvious in that teens make slower approaches to stops and turns, reduce distractions in their vehicle and actively scan for hazards. These are habits that older drivers learn over a long period of time.
