Focus on Safe Driver Week

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and the Department of Transportation are gearing-up for Operation Safe Driver Week, a major education drive occurring Oct. 21-28. The main goal of this week is to improve driver performance in both commercial and non-commercial vehicles through comprehensive educational strategies and exercises. Just in time for Operation Safe Driver Week, DriveCam offers the following tips for improving driver behavior:

  • Savvy solutions
A Driver Risk Management (DRM) solution is a compliment to the driver training the company has already provided. A DRM solution acts as a continuous training tool and is efficient in monitoring risky driving behavior once the standard has been set on driver behavior. A DRM solution also acts as ongoing input into driver performance; the solution will show you specifically what risky driving behaviors need to be corrected.

  • Clear communication is key
Every company has their own rules and regulations for drivers. Be sure to clearly communicate these rules and the importance of following them. Your driver's road safety increases every time a seat belt is worn or a cell phone is shut off as complete focus is imperative to driver safety.

  • Create a rewards system
By implementing a rewards system, drivers have additional reason to practice safe driving behaviors. Reward drivers when they have traveled a certain number of miles without having an accident, or when a certain amount of time has passed. By recognizing your drivers for their good driving behavior, they will be inclined to continue that behavior.
