Rusty Weiss, general manager of consumer insurance, DriveCam, spoke at the University of California at Irvine's "Innovative Technologies and Teen Driver Safety" forum November 1. The program was a platform for community members to learn about new technologies and solutions that promote safe driving behavior among teens.
Weiss heads the Teen Safe Driver ProgramSM, a collaboration between DriveCam and American Family Insurance, which allows parents to open the lines of communication with their teenagers and coach them to be better drivers.
On November 15, American Family Insurance announced the final roll out of the program to all 18 states where the company offers its services. This expansion allows more families to experience the safety that the program brings and the open dialog between parents and teens as they work together to improve good driving behaviors and patterns.
The UCI forum, sponsored by the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine and Center for Trauma and Injury Prevention Research, featured speakers on a variety of technologies, including electronic stability control and vehicle tracking systems.
