American Family Insurance and DriveCam Inc. Launch Teen Safe Driver ProgramSM to Reduce Risky Driving Behavior and Save Teen Lives
In an unprecedented effort to combat the national epidemic of teen driving-related deaths and injuries, American Family Insurance and DriveCam Inc., launched the Teen Safe Driver Program on March 1, 2007. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States and the Teen Safe Driver Program provides a proven approach to reducing risky driving behavior and saving lives.
The Teen Safe Driver Program is available to American Family automobile insurance customers in Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin at no cost, and interested participants can register for the Teen Safe Driver Program at www.teensafedriver.com. DriveCam will provide participants with a video event recorder that records sights and sounds inside and outside their vehicles. Once installed, the unit captures risky driving behaviors such as swerving, hard braking, sudden acceleration and collisions. Images and sounds are then sent wirelessly to an analysis center where trained analysts review and assign each risky behavior a risk score. Parents will receive a weekly report via e-mail, including an objective, third-party assessment of their teen driver's driving performance compared with other teens.
DriveCam's innovative combination of technology and service are at the heart of the Teen Safe Driver Program - the same solution applied extensively and successfully in commercial fleet settings. The Teen Safe Driver Program is already gaining national attention. To learn more about this significant initiative, please click here.
