An Editor’s Q&A with Beth Schneider, sector general manager, distribution and services, at DriveCam Inc.
Beth Schneider recently joined DriveCam as a sector general manager (SGM) for the distribution and logistics industries. Beth spent some time this month with the editors of DriveCam’s e-newsletter about her new role.
Editor: What brought you to DriveCam?
BS: I learned about DriveCam through a colleague. What appealed to me the most prior to joining the team was the obvious value that the company delivers to clients in terms of driver safety. DriveCam is young and dynamic and it was the perfect fit for me. It also was a chance to work with a lot of talented people who are committed to saving lives.
Editor: What is the one thing you were most surprised to learn about the distribution industry?
BS: The distribution industry really encompasses a lot of markets. Although it’s segmented along the lines of food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, long haul, etc., the industry as a whole is very safety focused. Fleets are investing in technologies such as on-board safety diagnostics, collision avoidance systems and GPS which demonstrates an interest and desire for improving safety. This has not only confirmed to me that there is an opportunity for DriveCam in this market, but that we can offer fleets something unique and beneficial, like improving driver behavior. DriveCam’s solution focuses on the driver and we are the only company focused on improving risky driving behavior by predicting and preventing crashes.
Editor: What is DriveCam currently doing in this industry to mitigate risk?
BS: We currently are in pilot programs with regional food and beverage distributors. With these pilots, we are seeing a trend that not only are these fleet owners committed to improving driver safety, but that the DriveCam solution can help them identify and improve other problem areas like reducing damage costs.
Editor: Who is on your team and how do you all work together?
BS: Our team includes a field project manager, Dennis Ribble, and a program specialist, Erica Loux. They have a strong commitment to the company and are very client-focused. Their enthusiasm and energy have been great assets to DriveCam and our clients.
Editor: What is one fun fact that many may not know about you?
BS: I have always wanted to write a screenplay, and specifically, a comedy. I have taken a class and I write creatively in my personal time. This is something I’ll likely do some day, but given my schedule, have put it on hold for now.
