A member of the PestSure captive achieved a 50% reduction in claims within a 6 month period, while dropping preventable crashes to zero.


Situation

A premier pest elimination company, Lloyd Pest Control has more than 300 employees and operates over 200 radio-dispatched trucks. For the past 20 years, Lloyd Pest Control has been a member of PestSure, a nationwide association of 96 pest control companies created to control insurance program is managed by Lockton, a large insurance brokerage firm.

Lloyd Pest Control ranked among the highest liability companies in the PestSure captive, and turned to the association for guidance on reducing claims. Together with PestSure, Lloyd Pest Control decided to evaluate DriveCam's solution as a method for improving driver behavior and lowering risk.


Solution

Lloyd Pest Control established a DriveCam pilot program at a remote office.

  • 30 DriveCam exception-based, video event recorders were installed in technician's vehicles.
  • Drivers participated in an open forum session where drivers were encouraged to ask questions, and were given a three-week amnesty period during which they learned how the DriveCam's Driver Risk Management worked.
  • Lloyd Pest Control supervisors reviewed each triggered event, and determined if and how the incident could have been prevented.

Lloyd Pest Control attributes their huge success to the proactive way they have implemented the DriveCam system.

"The challenge upfront was making sure our employees knew what DriveCam was and wasn't for," said Scott Crowley, technical director, Lloyd Pest Control. "Early on, the trickiest party was not the deployment itself, but education. A couple of people will always be worried, but by and large, our employees have come to see what DriveCam is there for."

As a result of the feedback process, driver acceptance of DriveCam has been high.

"Some of our drivers were skeptical at first," said Jamie Ogle, president, Lloyd Pest Control. "However, during a recent survey, a majority of our driver admitted that they had changed driving behaviors, such as driving more slowly over speed bumps. Many have even noticed that their driving habits have improved off the job."


Impact

  • In the first six months, the number of preventable crashes dropped to zero from two-to-three per quarter. DriveCam recordings of risky driving behavior also dropped from for to six per day for each driver to only one per week.
  • Lloyd Pest Control saved $10,000 and reduced fleet liability claims by 50% through the use of the DriveCam solution.
  • Lloyd Pest Control saved an additional $5,000 in maintenance and replacement cost from safer driving.

Said Ogle, "The impact of DriveCam systems to change people's behavior is phenomenal. With DriveCam, we can correct risky driving behavior before it becomes a serious incident."
