Noga Ambulance Service

Noga Ambulance Service

Safety-focused ambulance company uses DriveCam's Driver Risk Management solution to reduce preventable collisions and vehicle maintenance, and successfully defend insurance claims.

Situation

Noga Ambulance Service operates 16 wheelchair vans and ambulances in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

In 2003, the company experienced several preventable collisions, which spurred them to look into outside options for reducing risky driving behaviors to improve the safety of their drivers and ultimately impact their bottom line.

Solution

Noga has deployed the DriveCam's program including exception-based, video event recorders in its 16 driver-dedicated vehicles in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

  • A midnight shift operator downloads clips daily.
  • Safety supervisors use DriveCam software to review and score driving events, sorting them by vehicle and driver.
  • Clips are used during monthly safety meetings to provide ongoing driver coaching.

Impact

Noga saw almost immediate benefits upon installing DriveCam:

  • Clear improvement in driving behavior (See supporting charts on the behavior change).
  • Fraud protection on a highway accident that correctly assigned blame to the third party (when a third party was trying to argue otherwise).
  • Reduction in collision rates.
  • Discussions about risky driving behavior in monthly Safety Meetings.
  • The "Pothole of the Month Club" uses DriveCam video to show the most dangerous potholes on county highways and streets, so drivers can avoid them.
  • EMTs are strong advocates of DriveCam as it protects both them and their patients.

"Almost immediately, we saw results using DriveCam. We saw our collisions drop and we've experienced a reduction in maintenance costs, including longer brake life. Overall, the DriveCam program has greatly improved the safety of our fleet."
